Thanks to multiple personal security apps, you can use your smartphone to your advantage if you believe you have a stalker or if you are being followed by a stranger.

Here are a few free personal safety apps that you can download and the advantages one each one:

bSafe

bSafe is one of the best personal safety apps because of the wide variety of features it comes with. You can set up a network of your friends and family members and designate them as Guardians. These Guardians will then be able to follow you on your way home via a GPS device. Many parents have their kids download bSafe because of this feature.

Another great feature of bSafe is the emergency alarm that you can hit to immediately send your location details to your Guardians. The app will also record video and audio from your phone after you hit the emergency alarm, and you will be able to present this video and audio recording to police later. The one negative to this app is that it drains your battery faster because of the GPS it uses, but I believe this is a small price to pay if it saves your life.

Circle of 6

Another great personal security app to consider is called Circle of 6. This is one of the most popular personal safety apps in the world.

You pick six relatives or friends to be in your circle (hence the “Circle of 6” name), and whenever you want them to call or text you or if you want to be picked up, you can hit the phone, text chat, and car icons respectively. Another feature is the “danger button,” which will reach hotlines for victims of domestic or sexual abuse when it is pressed.

Red Panic Button

As the name suggests, this app consists of a big Red Panic Button that will send your location (through a Google Maps link) to your designated contacts when the button is pressed.

You can also set up this app to send panic alerts with your information to your designated contacts. You can even press Facebook or Twitter panic buttons, and an emergency message will be posted on your profile of either social media outlet for your friends and followers to see and hopefully contact the authorities.

Kitestring

Kitestring is not an app, but rather an SMS text-messaging-based service

Kitestring is not an app, but rather an SMS text-messaging-based service that checks up on you when you are out. If you do not reply to Kitestring by text, it will send a personalized alert message to your designated emergency contact. Because it is not an app, there is no need for you to download it either.
