Survival planning and survival kits for beginners

To plan for your survival doesn’t mean something bad will necessarily happen when you’re out adventuring, but it’s being prepared which is often enough to help you avoid situations and issues that could occur and when you can’t avoid them you’re prepared to deal with them.

Survival planning is just a way of preparing before heading out on your wilderness trips. It’s better to be ready than to have regrets. The more survival skills you learn, the more chances you have if something goes wrong. Detailed planning and analyzing your journey can be helpful for you and the ones traveling with you.

Nature is unpredictable, so maybe you can’t be ready for every disaster, but at least you will have a much better chance of survival.

One very important aspect of survival planning is to make sure you have no dental problems. Also, be aware of your immune system and boost it before going on the trail. You don’t want to get sick in the wilderness where there is no medical help.

Fish hooks for your survival kit

A survival kit is a must have, especially for every wilderness beginner, no matter if you’re hiking, camping, sailing, kayaking or cycling, you should always be prepared and informed (through your research) about the climate and the weather conditions in the area you’re visiting. It is crucial for knowing what should your survival kit contain.

For example, hot climate survival kit is different from an icy mountains kit. So, make a prior investigation about where are you going, so you know what to pack. Even the smallest survival kit if well prepared can be a vital addition to keeping you alive.

How many things you’ll pack in your kit depends on how you will carry it. If you need to have it on you all the time, then you would probably like some small survival kit that is easy to transport. When preparing a kit, pack things that can be used multiple times and for different uses where possible. Your kit should be waterproof, durable, easy to carry around and attach to your body.

The most important items each kit should contain are:

  • First aid items.
  • Water purification tablets or drops.
  • Fire starting equipment.
  • Signaling items.
  • Food procurement items.
  • Shelter items.

Make sure you have at least the half of these things

  • Lighter, waterproof matches.
  • Signaling mirror.
  • Wrist compass.
  • Fish and snare line.
  • Fishhooks.
  • Candle.
  • Small hand lens.
  • Oxytetracycline tablets (diarrhea or infection).
  • Water purification tablets.
  • Solar blanket.
  • Surgical blades.
  • Butterfly sutures.
  • Condoms for water storage.
  • Chap Stick.
  • Needle and thread.
  • Knife.
  • Duct tape
  • Protein bars
  • Painkillers

Being a beginner at any activities is not an easy thing because you have no idea what are you going to face. For that reason, you need to be well prepared before starting the adventure. Good luck with your packing!
