Small mountain towns in the US perfect for a family vacation

Mountain towns are popular with visitors during the cold months, and it seems like people ignore them for the rest of the year. Having a vacation in one of these towns out of season will save you money and keep you away from the crowds. Especially if you want to travel with your kids, this can be the best choice you can make. Mountains in general offer plenty of outdoor activities and fun things to do for the whole family.

If you have a limited budget but want to surprise your folks by taking them on a nice vacation, check this list of picturesque mountain towns.

If you and your family prefer mountain hikes between waterfalls, then this is the right place for your vacation. Panthertown Valley has 30 miles of hiking trails where you can spend your days enjoying the fresh air and warm sun. After you finish your hike, you can have a tasty meal at one of the restaurants in the town that offer all kinds of menus. Beer lovers can visit the Hanzelmanschen Brewery, while the kids can have some tasty snacks.

Snowmass, Colorado

Stunning creeks and colorful meadows are things you can see in Snowmass when there’s no snow. If you are a fly fishing fan, make sure you get all your gear ready because you can spend your vacation providing dinner for your family every day. If that’s not what excites you, then take your kids on a whitewater rafting adventure and have the time of your lives together. Art festivals, concerts, food markets are venues that you can visit in town. Tasty food and affordable lodging are two more reasons to visit this small, dreamy town.

Unicoi State Park has lots of other things to offer as well as the biking trails. The main attraction in the park is the Unicoi Lake where you can rent a bike, go fishing, or explore the lake in a canoe. Around the lake, there are camping sites, children’s playgrounds, charcoal grills, and hiking trails. Bird lovers can enjoy the tranquility of the bird watching spots situated across the park.

Vail, Colorado

If you want to walk the streets similar to the ones found in the Grimm Brothers stories, go to Vail. You won’t find a town as picturesque as this one anywhere near. Whether you decide to have a walk around town or go for a long hike on the Vail Mountain, you and your family will enjoy the surroundings of this magical, cute place. If your kids get bored, take them on the zip line or the mountain coaster. Try to find fun for each member of the family and keep them occupied during the entire stay.

Sisters, Oregon

The Three Sisters, the city’s namesake mountains

This town got its name from the three mountain peaks nearby. There are endless hiking opportunities around Sisters where you can spend your days during the vacation. If you are an artistic person, you may like to visit the annual Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, where you can see fabric artists from all around the world. It’s the country’s largest outdoor quilt event. With a 40-minute ride from Sisters, you can visit the Smiths Rock State Park, leave your RV at Sisters RV Resort and explore the area.

If you are tired of beach vacations or maybe you think it’s too late for a holiday at this time of year, this list will help you decide where to take your family. Stay active, go outside and have fun!
