Bottle Cap Survival Kit – Make your own

Hi everybody stvnishere is here again and in this instructable we’ll be building a small and waterproof storage compartment inside your water bottle’s cap, so without further ado, here’s what you’ll need:

A wide mouth water bottle with screw in loop cap (I used a SubZero 500ml, but Klean Kanteen has some great ones, the Classic series)
A plastic, disposable water bottle
Superglue (cyanoacrylate)
Baking soda
A hacksaw or utility knife

That’s about it, let’s get to the build:

Cut off the top part of the plastic water bottle, right below the collar with a hacksaw or strong knife, then fit the piece, collar first, inside the loop cap, push it in a bit; this is the hardest part, if it really doesn’t want to go in, try sanding of a bit of the collar.

Once you got it in place, don’t forget to push it in approx. 1mm to create a small depression between the caps, sprinkle baking soda around the collar until you fill that depression you just created then add drops of superglue all around, you need to really soak the baking soda in superglue, this will create a very strong, almost glass like seal; alternatively you can add the superglue first then sprinkle the baking soda.

Once it hardened, it doesn’t take more than a couple of minutes, you are done, but what can you put in it?

Step 2: Kit contents

Well, there’s no “one size fits all” survival kit, what you put in yours depends mostly on the environment and landscape you are going to survive (and your special needs), and there are also limitations to the size and volume of the items that physically fit inside.

Having all this is mind and the fact that the kit is actually part of a water bottle: I’d suggest that water and water purification related items are the most suitable for this kit, things like: hydration powder, water purification tablets, a vial of chlorine (only if you know what you are doing), tincture of iodine, a fire kit or a combination of the above would be my choices.

A candle, fishing kit, needles and thread, beta light, snare wire, flexible saw, medical kit, surgical blades or duct tape would each fit inside; I’m really curious what would/will you put in yours.
