How to make a fishing lure from paracord

In this article, I will show you how to make a fishing lure out of paracord. When in a survival situation knowing how to take apart your paracord gear and use it for survival is important. After all, why else would you wear paracord gear if you don’t know how to use it in a survival situation!

Step 1: What You’ll Need

  • Scissors
  • Lighter
  • Fishing Hook
  • A small piece of Paracord.

Step 2: Pulling Guts Out and Cutting to Length

The numbers below correspond with the numbers in the diagram.

  1. Make sure the end of your paracord isn’t melted shut, and pull the inner strands, or guts, out about one inch.
  2. Cut the paracord about 1 inch down from the top.

Step 3: Adjusting the Guts

Now pull the guts of the paracord out from the bottom about an 1/8-1/4 of an inch.

Step 4: Slipping Hook Into Paracord

Slip the hook through the sheath of the paracord like shown in the diagram.

Step 5: Melting the End

Melt the end of your paracord AND inner strands (guts).

I like to melt the sheath first, to close in the guts, then melt the guts.

Make sure the eye hook at the end of the hook is exposed. Don’t melt the paracord over it.

Remember, the guts must be melted to the sheath so they don’t get ripped out. There is nothing else holding them in.

Step 6: Frilling the Ends.

Now just frill the end of the sheath, and the guts so they look like they do in the diagram and you’re done!
