Family beach vacations in South Carolina

South Carolina’s coastal towns and their beach landscapes are just perfect for spending a nice, family vacation. From endless sandy beaches and fresh seafood to professional golf courses and seaside activities, South Carolina’s coastline promises a summer holiday full of unforgettable adventures that the whole family will enjoy.

East Coasters have the advantage this time to enjoy one of arguably the best beach areas in the country while escaping the noisy city jam. Here’s a list of some places in South Carolina that are a must visit for this summer. Let’s get started!

Kiawah Island

Kiawah is a sea island on the Atlantic Coast of South Carolina that offers 10 miles of sandy beaches and around 10,000 acres of forest. Kiawah is a place where you’ll get plenty of sun and sand and where every member of the family will find beach facilities suitable for any age. The name of the island originates from the Kiawah Indians who were the first residents here and in 1670 led the English colonists to settle at what we know today as  Charleston.

Myrtle Beach

Many families prefer this beach before the other South Carolina beaches because of the variety of fun activities offered here. Here you can find a 60 mile long continuous beach stretch known as the Grand Strand, a chain of diverse sandy destinations for all tastes. You can pick your favorite spot depending on the needs of your family.

Plenty of oceanfront hotels to choose from

If you are a luxury resort fan, try North Myrtle Beach, if a quiet fishing village is what you’re looking for, then Little River Village may be your desired destination. For family-focused beaches go to Garden City and if you want a laidback vacation, visit Litchfield and Pawleys Island.

Myrtle Beach Grand Strand is also an affordable destination for any family budget. You can find good prices on lodging, food, and all the extra outdoor activities. Another good thing is that no matter where you decide to settle for your vacation, you can reach the other beaches in a very short car ride.

Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head is an ultimate vacation spot for all beach lovers who are looking for a milky-white inviting shoreline. A perfect place for long morning walks, building castles with your kids, or just laying back in a chair to relax with the sound of the ocean. At low tide, the beach is perfect for bicycle riding, jogging or pushing a stroller. This beach embraces the whole family giving you the feeling that you belong there. Even if your accommodation is not beach front, you can access the ocean at seven locations.

Isle of Palms

A stormy day at Isle of Palms beach

This barrier island out of Charleston has the best beaches for swimmers. It’s also a popular turtle nesting destination in the tall dunes. For golf and tennis lovers, this is the best choice for a perfect summer vacation. Beach volleyball is a very popular activity during the summer months, so if you ever visit Isle of Palms, you can participate in some of the tournaments organized by the Windjammer Club.

South Carolina’s coastline is one of the best places to spend a family vacation and enjoy the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. If you can afford it, try visiting all the beaches from our list and create unforgettable family memories. Those who experience the sandy beaches of the Grand Strand once are often coming back every year to repeat the adventure. Good luck with the beautiful beaches of South Carolina!
