Cool outdoor activities in Huntington Beach State Park

Huntington Beach State Park is a small nature preserve near Mullets Inlet in Georgetown County, South Carolina. The park is characteristic for its long sandy beach and a variety of bird species that attract visitors during the summer season. Huntington Beach State Park offers a big number of outdoor activities that will keep you busy and give your beach vacation a different direction.

After all, a cloudy day at the beach is a perfect time to try some new adventures and explore the area further than the sandy shores. If it’s not a good day for swimming, here are some cool suggestions for spending an active time in nature.

Salt marsh tour by kayak

Explore the park from a different perspective

Black River Outdoors Center offers guided kayak tours through the salt marsh just a mile away from the park’s entrance. Every Monday at 10 a.m. you can join a kayak tour with the local boaters who will take care of your safety and also will explain everything about the area. If you go any other day, there are kayaks and canoes for rent at any time.

Geocaching adventure with your friends

Geocaching kit for an amazing adventure

If you were a treasure hunter as a kid, you’d love geocaching in Huntington Beach State Park. There are more than 2 million geocaches in the world and a few of them hidden here. All you need is a GPS or the Official Geocaching App that will guide your way until you find the cache. It’s fun, active, and brings back good childhood memories.

Huntington Beach State Park is the best birding location in the southeast United States. There are more than 300 different bird species that you can find in the abundant nature of the park. Some people come here to see the gators, but the real thing to observe here is the colorful bird world that includes many types of ducks, roseate spoonbills, gannets, loons, scoters, razorbills, and murres.

Guided Segway Tour

Have fun with Segway Tours

If you’ve never ridden a Segway before, don’t worry because there’s a training lesson before every tour. Segway is the best way to explore the native plant life, alligators, loggerhead turtles, birds and have a personal look at the Atalaya Castle. Huntington Beach State Park offers guided Segway tours with absolute safety guaranteed.

Seining

Seining can turn up all kinds of interesting river creatures

Oyster Landing is the starting point for all fishermen within the Huntington Beach State Park. These shallow waters are a perfect place to try seining with your kids or friends. Dragging the net in the water to catch crabs, minnows, some small fish, and other creatures is a fun way to spend a cloudy afternoon at the beach. The park offers hour long Salt Marsh Seining events every Tuesday at noon from June 1 through August 31 where you can subscribe your kids.

A summer vacation does not necessarily mean baking yourself at the beach all day. There are plenty of amusing outdoor things you can do while vacationing and Huntington Beach State Park proves it. People who know how to enjoy life won’t be stopped by any weather storm from doing it. If the sun is not on your side, use the clouds to get the best out of your summer holiday. Good luck.
